Image 1: This is the image of the Jet d'Eue. This fountain sprays water to about 140 m at 200 km per hour. From this, I understood how brilliant Switzerland's architecture is. I am also able to see science being applied in real life.
Image 2: This is the image of the broken chair. I was amazed by how they were able to erect such a sculpture in the 19th Century itself. I was also intrigued by the reason behind the sculpture and how it is still relevant now.
Image 3: This image was taken to show the transport in Switzerland. One thing that I observed is that many people here cycle and also take the trams. Unlike in Singapore, where people are afraid to walk past cars and in carparks, in here people just walk beside the cars without any fears. One of the main reasons could be the minimal number of cars in here. Another thing that I noticed about transport in Switzerland is that it is very "independent" and trusted. In Singapore, we need d to tap in the card and sometimes even be restricted to enter because of the things we have but in here, you can just enter and commute. The main reason behind this is the trust that the government has on its citizens.
Day 2
Image 1: This reflection is based on what I
observed in CERN. In CERN, I noticed people of different ethnicities, although
CERN is based in Europe. This shows the community that is built up in CERN. A
group of people who are passionate about science.
Image 2: This reflection is based on what the
guide said. He mentioned that one of the important goals is to make sure that
the public understands what is happening there and why it is important. I was
impressed by how they give importance also for the public to understand. At
the end of the day, it is not just the scientists who are going to be
benefitted from the discoveries, it is the whole society. Without any one of
the sides, the journey of discoveries would not have been possible. This once again proves that humans are
interdependent animals
Image 3: This is the image of the protest that
happened in front of Credit Suisse. When I saw the protest, immediately thought
about Singapore. Would it be possible to have a protest of even that scale in
Singapore?
Then some other questions like:
1. are protesting important?
2. Are protest a
sign of a declining country?
came up to
my mind.
Day 3
Image 1: This image was taken during the train
journey from Geneva to Paris. In this journey, I noticed the greenery and all
the livestock roaming freely. This gave me a new perspective on this
place. This place is home to one of the most renowned science and technology
institute and also a place that has a lot of flora and fauna. I liked the
balance of nature and technology and made me wonder if it is possible in
Singapore.
Image 2: This is the image of the Arc de
Triomphe. When I first saw it, I was amazed by the intricate details in it.
Another thing I was intrigued by was the fact that they constructed it in the
19th century.
Image 3: This is the image of the beggars in
Paris. On the first day itself in Paris, I would have encountered or seen more
than 5 beggars. Some of them made me feel sympathetic towards them and I wanted
to donate to them, especially an old person with broken limbs. However, there
were still some people who looked fine but we're still begging. This made me
appreciate the people in Singapore who sell tissue to earn money rather than
begging.
Day 4
Image 1: This image is taken in the Science
Museum when we were exploring and learning new things. This shows own of our
school values, from the 10Cs, curiosity. We were very curious about finding out
science around us. I was particularly amazed by the Schrodinger Cat experiment.
Without curiosity, nothing would have been possible.
Image 2: This is the incident where my
teammate, Ng Shi Yu was not able to keep himself ready and messed up a lot. This
reminded me of my similar experience on my school's trip to Japan where I left
my whole bag in the conference hall. Apart from me losing my bag, this incident
of him would have not even occurred, if he had communicated properly. There was
no need for him to talk back. Most importantly, this issue mainly highlights the importance of
being spatially aware.
Image 3: This is an image taken in the The
Louvre. When we were discussing the engraving of the Egyptian
Civilization, a lot of interesting topics came like the existence of God and
aliens visiting earth. In my perspective, I think that we classify whatever
that humans can't reason as God. Maybe in the future, we will be able to get
an answer to this.
Day 5
Image 1: This is the image of the Musee des
Arts et Metiers. The items there were early machines and inventions. Those
inventions laid the ground for the current developments. From this, we can
understand that the only thing that changes in life is form and also that we
should strive for constant improvement.
Image 2: This is the image of the lift in the
Eiffel Tower. We observed how the system worked and understood how science
is being applied in the real world. This shows that we should always relate
what we learned in textbooks in real life.
Image 3: This is the image of the Eiffel Tower.
We were not able, not going according to plan. This shows that we should be
able to adapt to the situation.
